01 — About

The project

A hiring SaaS shipped ahead of schedule that still runs four years on.

Candidate Tools came to us the way a lot of good products start: with a feature list and a deadline, and a quiet worry that the list was not quite the product. We told them what to build — and then we built it.

The instinct on a fixed-scope engagement is to take the spec and ship it. We did the harder, more valuable thing first: we reframed the work around the real hiring problem, cut what would not be used, and committed to what would. That conversation is why the platform shipped early and why it is still running today.

Four years on, a small team still maintains and extends it without a rewrite — the surest sign that the thing was built right the first time.

02 — The work

Challenge, solution, outcome

Challenge

The team came to us with a feature list, not a product. The real problem — helping companies assess candidates fairly and fast — was buried under a spec that would have shipped something nobody wanted to use twice.

Solution

We pushed back before we wrote code. We reframed the spec around the actual hiring workflow, cut the features that did not earn their place, and built the rest full-stack: auth, billing, assessments and reporting, all typed and tested so a small team could maintain it without us.

Outcome

It shipped ahead of the original timeline and is still in production four years later — extended, not replaced. The platform did the one thing a hiring tool has to do: it got used, every day, by the people it was built for.
